Share Plans

Fractional share entitlements may be created in plans, but are not usually eligible to be sold.

These can be amalgamated and transferred to ShareGift in a single transaction.

Small holdings may arise within a plan for a number of reasons, such as the reinvestment of dividends after the sale of the balance holding or a high individual share price.

We can receive both ad hoc transfers of individual holdings, and transfers of amalgamated smaller entitlements.

Share entitlements can be created in error for a variety of reasons, and they may not be able to be transferred back to the Employee Benefit Trust, or the costs to do so may make effecting this uneconomic.

ShareGift can accept any such assets created in error.

These can arise from:

• Selling shares to cover tax and social securities liabilities.
• Residual amount left after the purchase of shares within share save.
• Fractional entitlements arising from dealing within the plan.
• Transfer to a plan provider who operates individual accounts.

These can be donated under share plan rules either by default, or by an opt in/out mechanism.

If your plan is covered by CASS rules, special provision is made within the rules for the transfer of small unclaimed share and cash balances to charity.

Where the underlying beneficial owner of assets is unknown, which can arise following corporate activity such as mergers and acquisitions, these can be transferred to charity via an FCA waiver.
