The added value of unrestricted funding

Our grants provide unrestricted funding for charities in the UK as a point of principle. Unrestricted funding is the most valuable funding for charitable beneficiaries, and the hardest to secure.

Unrestricted funding means that charities can apply those funds wherever there is the greatest need, whether that is towards new projects, capital appeals or core costs.

We do not invite funding applications or require recipient charities to provide us with impact reports. By making grants in this way we are able to lighten the fundraising and administrative burden on our beneficiary charities.

Themed Distributions

Our core grant-making is guided by the suggestions of donors and our corporate partners, however, we are also able to make occasional themed distributions, identifying areas where this is specific need, underfunding, or is of particular interest to our supporters and donors.

Beyond funding – how we support the Charity Sector

As well as providing charities with vital funding via our unique model, we also offer pro-bono support to charities to help them maximise the opportunities provided by share giving.

We produce resources for charities to help them better navigate share giving as a potential income stream, host regular free webinars, and share our expertise directly with charities.

Corporate Partners

Low value. illiquid, and unclaimed assets are often disproportionately expensive to administer.

ShareGift represents a cost-free solution to these assets.

We work with a wide variety of corporate partners in order to help clear problem assets of all kinds, solving problems and reducing costs. We have helped dispose of millions of small shareholdings, problem assets, and related cash entitlements. We work with partners of all kinds.

In 2025 the assets we received included the following:

Certificated Shareholding transfersc3,000c£29
Corporate Sponsored Nominee transfersc5,000c£74
Donated shareholdings via share dealing servicesc4,000c£42

Reissued dividend cheques (physical)c600>£2
Reissued dividend payments (BACS)c10,000>£2

This included hundreds of securities with zero listed value, and assets registered in over twenty countries.

We also received multiple asset classes not detailed above. This includes fractional entitlements arising from consolidations, rights issues, dividend reinvestment, and other corporate actions, residual share plan entitlements, unclaimed assets and unallocated assets.

As we typically receive amalgamated residual assets from corporate partners, it is not possible to give a precise breakdown of the number of shareholdings and residual cash entitlements we receive in any year. The above estimates are for illustrative purposes only.
